Sky scapes

I’ve found an addictive little creative pursuit of splicing my photographs from daily walks, often in sunset with slices of images from my paintings – really interesting seeing the relationships that are there not always consciously noted. Helping to make sense of the internal and external world and experiences of the current situation here in lockdown May 2020.

Also I made a recording zoom interview last night with my friend Artist Julie Allan interviewing me about my practice, inspiration etc last night, really fun to do, I will do the same for her soon and will edit and release it soon. Watch this space, hope everyone is well.

My contribution to open Windows 2020

In the postponed period of Brighton Artists Open Houses 2020 due to social isolation period there has been a brilliant idea to get local artists to exhibit their paintings in the windows of their own house; here is my contribution, harder than it looked to attain, the large pieces looked very sad indeed but this little framed piece worked nestled in the corner of our front window.

Always interesting to get a different perspective on our work as artists; didn’t feel brave enough to leave it there long, but I am definitely feeling inspired to keep painting and appreciating having a studio at home and a garden to go and commune with nature and get inspired – being in flow with painting is one very good way to forget for a few moments/ minutes about COVID 19; I hope anyone reading this is staying safe and sane in these very strange times.

Shortlisted for Hastings contemporary Open Exhibition 2020

I am so so pleased and proud that these two paintings, ‘In the Gloaming – Malmesbury’ and ‘Upwards -Lilting’ have been shortlisted to top 400 out of 1500 entry’s, especially since I started my Art journey at Hastings Technical College fantastic foundation course which was the most inspiring period of my young life leading up to that time and taught me to tune in to what was true and personal to me in my work going forward- Thankyou particularly to Rod Harman, amazing tutor who prepared us well #inspirational-teachers#katescottpaintings

‘Smokescreen’ – acrylic on canvas 20×20 cm

New little painting, pretty sure it’s finished, ‘Smokescreen’ – acrylic on canvas, will be framed for part of exhibition at @artat21 open house this year, part of @artistsopenhouses May 2020!! Looking forward to it, it’s taken a while to get back in to some painting after the Christmas shenanigans, I am liking how the chirpy rich turquoise is encroaching on the rather solemn glossy deep olive –

Looking forward to what else will unfold in my work this shiny new year

little upgrade of ‘Electric Blue Field’ / sharpened up a teeny bit and connected the big blue areas and made it feel more in keeping with more recent work, managed to restrain myself from completely changing it – nice size for framing #acrylic on canvas #blues #abstractpainting

Delivery of art to Patron and friend

Delivered this painting to one of my best and most long standing and beloved friends (and patrons) yesterday @popkit Kate Helmer ; ‘Before India’ was her favourite when it showed at 2 Knoyle Road , @fivewaysartistsgroup trail ; it has since been exhibited in Cornwall and found its way back to me , I painted it in anticipation of an amazing trip to Mumbai and Goa visiting my daughter ; the colours and smells and fauna have never stopped inspiring me , very happy it’s going to reside with her and her kin in her beautiful home from now on ,I’ve got some perspective now , rather like it !
