Kate trained in fine art painting at The University of East London, followed by a masters in Fine Art printmaking at Brighton University.
She had various studios and exhibited in and around London, taking part in mixed exhibitions, commissions and having work in private collections and also one-woman shows, moving back to Brighton in 2000.
Originally working in oil on canvas Kate now uses mixed water-based media, on paper or recently acrylic on canvas to create small vibrant intimate paintings, some framed and also larger pieces and also carries out commissions, please look at the contact page for more information.
Kate works very organically being lead by colour instinctively and using this alongside drawing and marks to convey emotion, mood, response to nature, landscape, and memory, often being inspired viscerally by music.
She says ‘There is often a battle between recklessness and control, natural expression and artificial order, the resulting truce being a feeling of balance, as if the images had just come into being, depicting a world within themselves.’
Also recently Kate has been exploring the relationship between the space above the horizon and the solidity or not of what exists beneath, both in actuality/pictorially and metaphorically, the conscious and the unconscious.
